Centre for Animal Welfare
Protecting Animals, Strengthening Communities, Creating a Sustainable Future

Animals play a vital role in our communities and ecosystems, yes, in Malawi, many suffer from neglect, poor health, and inadequate protection. The Centre for Animal Welfare (CAW) exists to change this. The CAW is the dedicated arm of the LSPCA which strives to improve animal well-being through education, veterinary care, policy change, and enforcement-all within a One Health approach that connects animal welfare to human and environmental health. At our CAW, we implement animal welfare programs in collaboration with key stakeholder, including the Government of Malawi, public health experts, NGOs, and civil society organizations. Through these partnerships, we address the root causes of animal welfare challenges and promote holistic, community-driven solutions.

EDUCATION & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
We empower individuals and communities through workshops, training sessions, and awareness campaigns, fostering a culture of compassion and responsibility toward animals.

VETERINARY CARE & WELFARE PROGRAMS
From mobile veterinary clinics to specialized treatment initiatives, we ensure accessible, high-quality care for animals in need.
what we do

POLICY & ADVOCACY
As a member of the Coalition of Africa Animal Welfare Organization (CAWO), we advocate for stronger animal protection laws and ethical standards in Malawi and beyond.

ENFORCEMENT & ACCOUNTABILITY
We support the implementation of Malawi’s Protection of Animals Act, promoting humane treatment, responsible care, and sustainable livestock management.
WHY IT MATTERS
In many communities, animals are essential for livelihoods, yet their welfare is often neglected. Healthy animals mean healthier people and a more sustainable environment. By ensuring animals are well-fed, properly housed, and free from suffering, we help build a better, more compassionate society.
